Last week a group of eight Yr9/10 students spent the weekend in Melbourne representing Crusoe College at the Volleyball Victoria Schools Cup, bringing home a gold medal!
This four day tournament is held annually at the State Volleyball Centre in Dandenong and brings together the best private and public school teams in the state for a shot at glory. Crusoe’s team was made up of Taylah Gray, Chandi Whitewolf, Paw K’Lu Moo, Sher Moo Say, Phyar Tha Yu Soe Toe Lei, Lucy De Prada, Mia Blake and Wah Dee Wah. The Yr10 Girls Division One was made up of six teams, with the top two set to meet in the final after the conclusion of round robin play.
The girls started the tournament with a bang, accounting for Academy on Mary Immaculate and Tintern Grammar with some really consistent serving. Saturday morning they faced Albert Park College (and the bitter cold) taking the match 2-0, but the highlight was the big comeback win over Nossal later that night. Riding high after a great win the girls took on Northcote on Sunday morning and really put the foot down, earning a place in the final as well as an afternoon off.
There was a real buzz across the stadium on Monday, Finals day had brought out a lot of supporters. To this point the girls had not lost a set and were keen to finish off their hard work. They took on Albert Park again in the final defeating them 2-0 in a really close match.
Everyone involved had a lot of fun both on and off the court. A big thank you to Gwenda Pratt for all of her help over the weekend (at times it was like having an extra player).
